GUIDELINES FOR PEEL’N’STICK APPLICATION

(These are guidelines only, Bear Pass Graphics assumes no responsibility or liability for cleaning solutions and their effects or misapplication or other application difficulties)

Temperature & Cleaning
1. Air and peel ‘n’ stick application surface temperatures must be above 15°C (60°F).

2. Be sure that the surface you are applying the vinyl to is clean and dry. ALWAYS assume the surface is dirty and requires cleaning. Two kinds of surface contamination need to be removed: petrochemical (tar, wax, grease, oil and gas residues) and organic (dust, dirt, bug residue, bird droppings). The residue from Windex style cleaners weakens the vinyl's adhesive – soapy water does not harm the adhesive on the vinyl. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions to make sure the cleaning substance you use is compatible with the surface you are cleaning!

Layout & Position

1. Identify the location you want the graphic placed. Using a tape measure (and/or a level), measure from some dominant horizontal axis. Mark at least two reference points using a pencil or masking tape (at points where it will not interfere with your graphic). Finally, trust your eyes!

2. Put the vinyl graphic face down on a flat surface and pull the backing away from the adhesive side at a 180° angle, folding the liner back on itself. This transfers the graphic to the application tape. If the vinyl doesn’t transfer, push that section back down on the transfer tape and try again.

Application Methods
A) Dry Application (I favour this method)

1. Holding the graphic by the edges of the application tape, align the graphic over the reference points along the axis you are following.

2. Apply the application tape holding the graphic to the surface from one side to the other or from the center out.

3. Using a flexible squeegee at a 45° angle (a credit card works well, but your hand works too!), and moderate pressure, squeegee from the center of the vinyl graphic out to the edges.

4. Remove the application tape from the graphic by pulling it away from the vinyl graphic at a 180° angle, folding it back on itself. If the vinyl stays on the backing paper, push back down on the surface to allow vinyl adhesive to grab the surface and pull back application tape as before.

B) Wet Application
1. If you think that you might need to reposition the graphic (or in windy conditions outside, hot surface or where there is large static buildup), a wet application can be utilized. Put 2 drops of dish soap in about a cup of water, put in a spray bottle and spray the surface. Remove the backing as above and spray the adhesive side of the vinyl.

2. Position the graphic where you want it. Squeegee properly (as described above).

3. Spray the application tape and let sit 30-90 seconds to soften the application tape.

4. Put the backing paper over the decal (slippery side against decal) and use a squeegee or credit card or something similar that has a little flex and squeegee from the center of the decal out to the edges. The water will get pushed out to the edges and the vinyl will adhere to the surface. Allow 15-30 seconds before carefully pulling the mask from the graphic (by pulling it away from the vinyl graphic at a 180° angle, folding it back on itself)

If You See a Bubble in the Vinyl

1. If you see a bubble try to squeegee the air out to the edges. If it persists, use a sharp pin or xacto knife to pierce it and smooth it out with your finger.

2. Small bubbles will disappear on a hot summer day – I tend to let time heal these, as a bunch of holes in the vinyl is probably not great.

Thank you very much for your patronage.
